photographs her constructions of temporary and intensely lit arrangements to capture the sublime. The history of the luminous surface is reframed via the ever-present backlit screen. 

Petley has been featured in thirty solo exhibitions and reviewed in Artforum’s Must See, Lenscratch, L’Oeil de la Photographie,  and the Houston Chronicle. Essays include Digital Visions by Saul Ostrow for the Grinnell College Museum of Art.  In 2021, Petley was Guest Curator for the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art with an exhibition that occupied the entire museum. 

Solo and group exhibitions include MCA Denver, FotoFest Houston, Museum of South Texas, Martin Museum at Baylor University, and Museum of the Southwest. Petley participated in PhotoIreland 2017 and is a Ucross Foundation fellowship recipient. In 1990, she received an NEA Rockefeller Foundation grant. Collections include the University of Colorado Art Museum, the City of Houston, the Polsinelli Collection, the Federal Reserve Bank, and others.
