Artists

Born in Italy, Rose Frisenda is a New York city based artist working in photography, painting, and drawing. She was a commercial photographer and in her 40’s returned to school for Fine Arts while continuing her experimental abstract photography based series. Her work directs attention to the materiality of photography creating an abstract language using vintage gelatin silver papers. The paper transcends its intended use as substrate and becomes an active element where it plays a key role in the final image.

The latest series, Lithium Valley, is inspired by the light of the California Desert and the Salton Sea water. It is an extension of the Silverlight series created in her NYC studio.

She received an AAS in Photography and a BFA Fine Arts degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 2013, she also attended the MA in Art Market practices program. Her work has been featured in @newyorkerphotos Instagram takeover and group shows including, the Elizabeth Foundation, Mana Contemporary, Guild Hall, AIR Gallery, Susan Eley Fine Art, Lyons Weir, Curious Matter, Ille Arts, and more. She teaches Chemical Painting at Penumbra Foundation.
